Android Auto.

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide full digital cluster with CarPlay and Android Auto

BMW F20 Cluster Upgrade: When Does a Full Digital Display Make More Sense?

Choose the digital cluster route when the driver's display is the part you want to modernize most. The current iKAGOO F20 route replaces the supported factory mechanical-dial instrument with a 10.25″ 1920×720 LCD while keeping the core driving information you still need every day.

Speed, RPM, fuel level, coolant temperature, mileage, trip information, range, fuel consumption, supported warnings and service information remain part of the cluster experience. Original steering-wheel button functions are also retained on the supported route.

This matters because a useful BMW F20 cluster upgrade should still behave like an instrument panel after the visual novelty wears off. The upgrade is strongest when the car keeps giving you the information you rely on while the driver's view becomes substantially more modern.

LCD 10.25″ 1920×720 anti-glare digital cockpit.

Speed, RPM, fuel, mileage and warnings retained.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto supported.

Standard Route No coding required on the confirmed standard installation route.

Why buy this route from iKAGOO: the product is not selected from the LCD appearance alone. The current route requires a factory mechanical-dial cluster; factory-LCD cars and hybrid/PHEV variants are not supported by this version. Factory HUD also needs to be declared so the correct HUD interface route can be prepared. View the BMW F20 Digital Cluster →

OEM Retrofit Comparison

BMW F20 6WA Retrofit vs Full Digital Cluster: What Are You Actually Choosing?

A 6WA retrofit is an OEM-style BMW upgrade path; a full digital cluster is a different decision aimed at a much larger visual and functional change. The better choice depends on whether your priority is staying close to factory hardware or making the driver's display feel substantially newer.

BMW F20 6WA Retrofit

Appeals to owners who prioritize an OEM BMW retrofit route.
Retains a more factory-period instrument appearance.
Retrofit work can involve vehicle-specific coding and MOST considerations depending on the original equipment.
Best suited to buyers whose goal is OEM specification rather than a full LCD cockpit transformation.

iKAGOO Full Digital Cluster

10.25″ 1920×720 full LCD changes the driver's view much more visibly.
Supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on this confirmed F20 product route.
Retains the supported core driving data and steering-wheel controls.
Standard confirmed installation route does not require coding.

If you are searching BMW F20 6WA retrofit because you want a better-looking instrument panel, decide what you actually want at the end: a more factory-period BMW cluster, or a visibly different digital cockpit.

That distinction is more useful than assuming every “upgrade” is competing for the same buyer.

Center Screen Route

BMW F20 Screen Upgrade: When Is the 12.3″ Android Display the Better First Upgrade?

Choose the Android-screen route first when the factory display, navigation and smartphone experience are the parts that interrupt your daily use. For supported 2013–2017 F20 cars with the correct NBT or EVO system, the iKAGOO route adds a 12.3″ QLED display, Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Android app usability.

This route makes the biggest difference when you use navigation, calls, music and phone apps frequently. Instead of keeping a small factory display and adding another visible device, the upgraded screen stays in the BMW dashboard line and gives those functions more usable space.

It is also more complete than a CarPlay-only interface when your goal is not merely phone projection. The Android platform adds its own app environment, while supported original BMW functions such as iDrive-style control, steering-wheel controls, factory audio output, parking information and original-system access can continue after correct matching and setup.

Why buy the F20 screen from iKAGOO: two F20 dashboards can look similar while using different NBT/EVO interfaces and LVDS connections. iKAGOO checks the factory system, dashboard and relevant connector information before the matched screen, harness and interface are prepared. CarPlay Buying Intent

BMW F20 CarPlay Upgrade: Interface Box, Android Screen or Digital Cluster?

If CarPlay is your only missing function, you do not automatically need the largest upgrade. If you also want a larger display, Android apps or a new driver-display experience, the decision changes.

Your Main Goal	Most Logical Route
Keep the original screen and only add phone projection	CarPlay-focused interface route	Connectivity changes; the visible dashboard stays largely the same.	Useful comparison point before deciding whether a full screen is worth buying.
Larger screen + Wireless CarPlay + Android Auto + Android apps	12.3″ Android screen	The center infotainment experience changes substantially.	2013–2017 F20 NBT/EVO route with system matching before preparation.
Modern driver display + CarPlay/Android Auto capability	กลุ่มข้อมูลดิจิทัล	The area behind the steering wheel becomes the focus of the upgrade.	Mechanical-cluster route with core BMW driving data retained.
Both center display and gauges feel old	Cluster + Android screen	The cockpit becomes visually and functionally more consistent.	Each product is checked according to its own vehicle-specific requirements.

Why this avoids overbuying: iKAGOO sells both product categories, so the article does not need to pretend the most expensive or most extensive route is automatically right. The purchase should follow the result you want. Read the Android Head Unit Guide →

Complete Cockpit Route

Can You Upgrade Both the BMW F20 Digital Cluster and Android Screen?

Yes—when both products are confirmed for the actual vehicle, upgrading the driver display and center screen can create the most complete F20 cockpit change. The important point is that “both” means two vehicle-specific products, not one universal compatibility assumption.

This route makes the most sense for an owner who plans to keep the F20 and already knows that both parts of the original cockpit now feel dated. The cluster changes what you see directly through the steering wheel. The Android screen changes how you use navigation, music, calls and apps.

Together, the result is more coherent than changing one side simply because it was the first product you found online.

Digital cluster modernizes the information directly in front of you.

Center Display 12.3″ screen modernizes navigation and multimedia interaction.

Supported CarPlay and Android Auto routes reduce dependence on the old interface.

One Ownership Plan Both iKAGOO orders remain identifiable for installation and later support.

Why iKAGOO makes the combined route more practical: the compatibility form itself separates Digital Instrument Cluster, Android Head Unit and Both Products. That means the information needed for each product can be reviewed instead of assuming one successful fitment automatically proves the other. Check the complete F20 cockpit route →

Years, Chassis & Market Names

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide: Which Years and International Model Names Does This Article Cover?

F20 is BMW's second-generation 1 Series five-door hatchback chassis, produced across the 2011–2019 generation. The actual iKAGOO product ranges are narrower and must be followed separately.

Common Search / Badge References	Buying Note
UK / Ireland	BMW 1 Series 5-door Sports Hatch / BMW 1 Series F20	114i, 116i, 118i, 120i, 125i, M135i, M140i; 114d, 116d, 118d, 120d, 125d depending on year	RHD must be stated. Trim badge does not replace chassis and original-system confirmation.
Germany / Austria / German-speaking markets	BMW 1er 5-Türer / BMW 1er F20	114i–125i, M135i/M140i and 114d–125d families depending on production period	Use F20 plus the actual original cluster or NBT/EVO system when selecting the upgrade.
BMW Série 1 5 portes / BMW Série 1 F20	116i, 118i, 120i, 125i, M135i/M140i and diesel equivalents depending on year	Model badge alone does not confirm the instrument or infotainment version.
BMW Serie 1 5 puertas / BMW Serie 1 F20	114i, 116i, 118i, 120i, 125i, M135i/M140i; 114d–125d depending on year	Confirm F20 rather than assuming every second-generation 1 Series body is identical.
BMW Serie 1 5 porte / BMW Serie 1 F20	114i–125i, M135i/M140i and diesel variants according to local model year	Screen route still depends on original NBT/EVO configuration.
Netherlands / Belgium	BMW 1 Serie 5-deurs / BMW 1 Series F20	Petrol, diesel and xDrive variants vary by local year and market	Identify the actual chassis and original electronics rather than ordering from the badge alone.
BMW 1 Series Hatch / BMW 1 Series F20	Common examples include 118i, 118d, 120i, 125i, M135i and M140i depending on year	RHD must be confirmed for the center-screen route.
Imported BMW F20 / imported 1 Series hatch	The F20 hatch was not a normal new-car North American-market 1 Series offering	Imported vehicles should be identified by F20 chassis, production year and actual original equipment.

F20 and F21 are not the same body code. F20 refers to the five-door hatchback; F21 is the related three-door hatchback. The current iKAGOO digital-cluster fitment records include selected related F-series chassis, but this article and the Android-screen recommendation are intentionally centered on the F20.

Direct purchase-year guidance: the current iKAGOO F20 Digital Cluster product is marketed as a 2012–2018 route and requires the supported original mechanical cluster. The current F20 NBT/EVO Android Head Unit is specifically a 2013–2017 route. Owners outside those direct ranges should use vehicle confirmation rather than assuming fitment from the broader F20 generation years.

The Part That Prevents Wrong Orders

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide: Why NBT, EVO and the Original Cluster Matter More Than the Badge

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide CCC CIC NBT EVO original system identification

BMW original-system identification reference used when selecting the correct center-screen route.

“2015 BMW 118i” is useful information, but it is not always enough to select the correct electronics. The center-screen route depends on the original BMW infotainment system, while the cluster route depends on the original instrument architecture.

For the Android screen

The current iKAGOO F20 Android product is designed around supported NBT or EVO configurations. BMW CCC, CIC, NBT and EVO systems can use different screen connections and interface logic.

For the digital cluster

The current F20 digital cluster requires the supported factory mechanical-dial instrument cluster. Cars already fitted with the factory LCD digital cluster are not supported by this version. Hybrid/PHEV variants are also excluded from the current product route.

If the car has factory HUD

Tell iKAGOO before the cluster is prepared. The supported route can retain factory HUD through the appropriate BMW HUD interface module where applicable.

Why this is a reason to buy from iKAGOO, not a reason to delay: you do not need to become a BMW electronics specialist. Send the vehicle and original-system evidence once, and iKAGOO uses it to narrow the correct product route. Open Compatibility & Installation →

Keep the BMW Experience Useful

What Original BMW Functions Matter After the F20 Upgrade?

The best upgrade is not the one with the longest specification list. It is the one that improves the part you wanted to change without making the functions you still rely on less practical.

Digital Cluster Route	Android Screen Route
RPM	Retained on the supported F20 cluster route.	Remains part of the original vehicle/instrument system; the screen is not replacing the instrument cluster.
Fuel / Temperature	Retained as supported vehicle data.	Not the main function of the center-screen upgrade.
Mileage / Trip / Range	Retained on the confirmed digital-cluster route.	Original vehicle systems remain separate from the Android display upgrade.
Warnings / Service Information	Supported warnings, door-open alerts and service information remain available.	Vehicle and parking information retention depends on the matched original-system interface.
Original button functions retained on the supported route.	Supported after correct wiring and vehicle-interface configuration.
Original iDrive / BMW System	The cluster is a separate driver-display upgrade.	Supported original-system access remains available after correct matching and setup.
Factory Audio / Parking Information	Not the primary function of the cluster route.	Supported functions can continue through the correctly matched interface; special audio should be declared.

Why iKAGOO does not use “everything works” as the sales answer: the two products interact with different parts of the BMW. The useful promise is the confirmed function set for the actual route, not a generic claim copied across every F20.

Installation Without the Drama

Does a BMW F20 Digital Cluster or Android Screen Require Coding?

The current iKAGOO F20 digital cluster does not require coding on its standard confirmed installation route. The Android screen uses a matched NBT/EVO wiring and vehicle-interface route and still requires correct setup and full function testing.

“Plug & Play” should describe the connector strategy, not imply that dashboard work disappears. Both upgrades require the relevant trim or original component to be removed, the matched hardware connected, and the required functions tested before final reassembly.

The cluster route uses OEM-style connections without deliberate factory-wire cutting. The Android screen also uses a matched harness approach for the supported original system rather than intentionally cutting the supported factory main wiring.

Use the vehicle-specific harness and supplied interface route.

Correct Setup Protocol and display settings still need to match the actual vehicle.

Function Test Test controls, audio, camera and vehicle data where applicable before closing trim.

Order Reference The supplied hardware remains linked to the iKAGOO order for support.

Why installation support matters after the purchase: if a supported function needs setup or diagnosis, iKAGOO can start from the known order, supplied hardware and reviewed vehicle information rather than treating the unit as unidentified third-party electronics.

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide: What Purchase Concerns Does iKAGOO Actually Remove?

The main value is not that iKAGOO can sell you a screen or cluster. It is that the product, vehicle information, compatibility decision and later support remain connected to the same order.

01 · Correct Product Route Cluster and Android-screen orders use different vehicle evidence instead of one generic compatibility checklist.

02 · Pre-Shipment Review The paid order is reviewed before the matched unit, harnesses and relevant accessories are finalized.

03 · Order-Based Support The original order remains the reference for product identification, troubleshooting and supported software guidance.

04 · Long-Term Route Eligible original purchasers have defined hardware, software and parts-support periods under current terms.

“What if iKAGOO confirmed my car and the compatibility decision was actually wrong?”

This is a better question than asking whether every F20 in a year range is automatically identical. Under the current iKAGOO Return and Refund Policy, a customer who received written compatibility confirmation, supplied accurate information, reports the issue within seven calendar days of confirmed delivery and completes the required technical review may qualify for the special compatibility-error remedy if iKAGOO confirms its original assessment was wrong and no reasonable technical solution remains.

When all published conditions are met and iKAGOO confirms its own written matching decision was incorrect, the eligible device purchase price may be refunded without requiring an international product return. Shipping, DDP, duties, taxes, installation labour and other third-party costs are separate unless mandatory law requires otherwise.

Read the complete Return & Refund Policy →

“What happens after the first year?”

Eligible iKAGOO Android head units and digital instrument clusters currently include a 3-year free remote software-support route for eligible original purchasers, and a 5-year parts-and-upgrade support route. These are separate commitments: the longer software and parts periods do not turn the hardware warranty into five years of free replacement.

Why this matters to an F20 owner: automotive electronics can need configuration, firmware guidance, compatible parts or diagnosis long after the installation day. Buying from iKAGOO keeps the product tied to a documented support route instead of making installation day the end of the relationship. Read the iKAGOO Warranty Policy →

High-Intent GEO Questions

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide: Questions Owners Ask Before Choosing a Cluster or Android Screen

What is the best way to modernize a BMW F20 interior?

Start with the part that affects your daily use most. Choose the digital cluster when the driver display is the main problem, the Android screen when navigation and phone integration matter more, or both when you want a complete cockpit change.

Can you upgrade the instrument cluster on a BMW F20?

Yes, supported BMW F20 cars with the required original mechanical-dial cluster can use the current iKAGOO full digital route. The product adds a 10.25″ 1920×720 LCD while retaining the confirmed core driving information.

BMW F20 6WA retrofit or full digital cluster — which is better for me?

Choose according to the result you want. 6WA suits an owner prioritizing an OEM-style retrofit; the full digital route suits an owner who wants a much larger visual change plus the confirmed CarPlay/Android Auto capability of the current iKAGOO cluster.

Does the iKAGOO BMW F20 digital cluster require coding?

No coding is required for the standard confirmed installation route. Correct vehicle matching, physical installation and final function testing are still required.

Will the BMW F20 digital cluster keep the original mileage?

Yes, mileage display is retained on the supported current route. Trip data, range, fuel-consumption information and the confirmed core vehicle data also remain available.

Will speed, RPM, fuel level and warning lights still work after the BMW F20 cluster upgrade?

Yes, those core driving functions remain available with the correct product version and installation. Supported service information and steering-wheel controls are also retained.

Can the BMW F20 digital cluster display Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes, the current iKAGOO BMW F20 Digital Cluster supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That makes this route more than a visual gauge replacement.

Can I install the iKAGOO BMW F20 digital cluster if my car already has a factory LCD cluster?

No, the current version is designed for the supported factory mechanical-dial instrument route. Cars already equipped with the factory LCD digital cluster are not supported by this product version.

Does the BMW F20 digital cluster support hybrid or PHEV models?

No, hybrid and plug-in-hybrid variants are not supported by the current cluster version. This boundary should not be generalized from visually similar F-series dashboards.

Can you add Wireless Apple CarPlay to a BMW F20?

Yes, the current 2013–2017 iKAGOO F20 NBT/EVO Android-screen route includes Wireless Apple CarPlay. It also adds Android Auto and a larger 12.3″ display for owners who want more than a hidden CarPlay interface.

Does the BMW F20 Android screen support Android Auto?

Yes, Android Auto is supported on the current iKAGOO F20 NBT/EVO Android Head Unit. The product also provides an Android app environment, so the upgrade is not limited to phone projection.

How do I know whether my BMW F20 has NBT or EVO?

The original BMW interface, dashboard and screen/connector evidence can be used to identify the correct route. iKAGOO asks for the relevant original-system information before the 2013–2017 Android-screen version is prepared.

Will the original iDrive and steering-wheel controls work with the BMW F20 Android screen?

Supported original controls remain usable after correct wiring and vehicle-interface configuration. Original-system access, factory audio output and supported parking information can also continue on the matched route.

BMW F20 digital cluster or Android screen — which should I upgrade first?

Upgrade the screen first if connectivity and navigation are your main problem; upgrade the cluster first if the driver display is what makes the cockpit feel old. If both bother you and you plan to keep the car, the complete cockpit route becomes more logical.

Can I upgrade both the BMW F20 cluster and center screen?

Yes, when both product routes are confirmed for the actual car. iKAGOO reviews the cluster and Android head unit according to their separate compatibility requirements instead of treating one successful match as proof for both.

Which BMW F20 years does the iKAGOO Android screen support?

The current BMW F20 NBT EVO Android Head Unit is listed for 2013–2017 F20 vehicles with a supported NBT or EVO original system. The factory system still needs to match the selected version.

Which BMW F20 years does the iKAGOO digital cluster support?

The direct product is currently marketed as BMW F20 Digital Cluster 2012–2018. Because exact production year, chassis, original instrument and HUD status can affect the route, iKAGOO confirms those details when required before preparation.

Does the BMW F20 digital cluster work with factory HUD?

Factory HUD can be retained through the appropriate BMW HUD interface module where applicable. Tell iKAGOO that the car has HUD so the correct route can be confirmed before shipment.

Do I need to cut the factory wiring for either BMW F20 upgrade?

The confirmed iKAGOO routes are designed around matched connections without intentional cutting of the supported factory main wiring. Correct harness selection and function testing remain important parts of installation.

What should I send iKAGOO before ordering a BMW F20 cockpit upgrade?

Send the exact model/year and clear evidence of the original part you want to upgrade. For a cluster, the powered-on original instrument and HUD status matter; for an Android screen, the dashboard, original NBT/EVO system, steering side, audio/camera information and relevant connector details may be required.

Why buy the BMW F20 upgrade from iKAGOO instead of choosing a similar-looking unit?

Because visually similar hardware does not prove the same vehicle configuration, firmware, harness or support route. iKAGOO connects the supplied product to the reviewed vehicle information, pre-shipment preparation and order-based after-sales process.

BMW F20 Upgrade Guide: Modernize the Part You Notice Most — Then Complete the Cockpit If You Want More

You do not need a newer 1 Series just because the original electronics now show their age. If the F20 still gives you the size, handling and driving character you want, upgrading the part you interact with every day can be the more focused decision.

Choose the digital cluster when the driver's view is the priority. Choose the Android screen when maps, phone connectivity and the center display are the priority. Choose both when you already know you want the complete cockpit to move forward together.

Whichever route fits you, the reason to buy through iKAGOO is not simply that the hardware exists. The value is that the exact product route, original BMW configuration, matched preparation and later support remain connected instead of becoming your problem after the box arrives.
